Two related practices. One keeps the books clean month to month; the other puts a CPA’s name behind them when a lender, a bonding company, or a buyer asks for more than your word.

Client accounting services is the standing engagement: someone closes your books every month, runs payroll, files the sales tax, and hands you statements within ten business days of month-end. That’s a choice you make because you want to run the business on real numbers.
Assurance is almost always a response to somebody else’s requirement. A bank puts a covenant in a loan agreement. A bonding company sets a threshold before it will write a larger surety line. An investor or a buyer asks for audited statements as a condition of diligence. A grant or a regulator specifies a level in writing.
The two work better together. Assurance on books we already close is faster and cheaper than assurance on books somebody else kept, because the reconciliations and working papers already exist in the form an auditor asks for.
